Ontario Relaunches REDI: New Immigration Pathway for Six Northern and Rural Communities

Ontario has relaunched its Regional Economic Development through Immigration (REDI) program under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). Announced on October 16, 2026, the program reserves nomination spaces for workers who settle in communities outside the Greater Toronto Area.

This round covers six communities: Greater Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Nipissing District, Kenora District, Rainy River District and Renfrew County. Each community will get its own nomination quota, though the OINP has not yet published the numbers. Candidates who qualify under any OINP stream may benefit. The program runs until December 31, 2027.

REDI began as a pilot in 2020 and has since nominated about 1,000 workers, mostly in health care and skilled trades. Thunder Bay is the only community carried over from the previous round.

If you live, work or have a job offer in one of these regions, your path to Canadian permanent residence may now be faster. Several of these communities also take part in federal programs such as the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP).
