Canada Introduces Personalized Work Permit Processing Times

Canada has introduced a new personalized processing-time feature for certain work permit applicants, giving them a clearer estimate of how long they may have to wait for a decision. The update applies to people in Canada extending an existing work permit, including those changing its conditions, as well as international graduates applying for their first Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).

Applicants can now check an estimated remaining wait time based on the date they submitted their application. The system also shows how many applicants are ahead of them and the total number awaiting decisions. As of September 26, 2026 around 202,900 applicants were awaiting decisions.

The estimates are not guaranteed decision dates. Applicants who apply before their current work permit expires may also benefit from maintained status while waiting for a decision.
