British Columbia has conducted the first-ever draw under its new Temporary Rural/Remote Health Support Initiative. The 23 July 2026 draw invited 60 eligible candidates working as cleaning and security staff employed by participating B.C. health authorities to apply for a provincial nomination through the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). The minimum score required for the draw was 50.
The Temporary Rural/Remote Health Support Initiative is a time-limited immigration pathway to address staffing shortages in healthcare facilities located in rural and remote communities. The initiative recognizes the contributions of workers in occupations who help maintain essential healthcare services but have traditionally had limited access to permanent residence pathways.
British Columbia plans to nominate up to 250 eligible workers through this program. The registrations for this program opened on June 15, 2026. It is to remain open until August 31, 2026. The initiative will allow qualified applicants to pursue Canadian permanent residence through the provincial nomination process. Successful applicants can apply for Canadian permanent residence through the federal government.
