Ontario Increases PR Points for High-Income Workers

Ontario has revised its scoring system under the Ontario Workforce Priority Stream (OWPS). Applicants earning a higher income now have a greater advantage in the Canadian permanent residence.

Under the updated rules, applicants earning $80,000 or more can now receive the maximum 10 points for income, strengthening their position in the provincial selection process.

The change, effective October 5, 2026, replaces the previous income scoring structure, under which candidates earning $70,000 or more could receive up to eight points. Applicants earning between $70,000 and $79,999 will now receive eight points, while lower-income candidates will receive fewer points based on their earnings.

Ontario says income will be verified using a Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment from the previous five years. The adjustment could make higher-paid workers more competitive for provincial nomination and, ultimately, Canadian permanent residence.
