Ontario has officially opened applications for its new Ontario Workforce Priority Stream (OWPS). The new pathway operates under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) and opened its online intake on August 4, 2026.
The OWPS is to attract workers and professionals who meet Ontario’s workforce needs. It includes three pathways: one for higher-skilled workers, one for lower-skilled workers, and another for self-employed physicians who are registered to practice in Ontario and eligible to bill the province’s public health insurance program, OHIP.
Candidates applying through the job-offer pathways must first create an Expression of Interest (EOI) through Ontario’s e-Filing Portal. Their EOI must be connected to a qualifying job offer from an eligible Ontario employer. Self-employed physicians have a different process that begins with an online submission to the OINP.
Ontario will periodically select candidates from the EOI pool using a points-based ranking system and an EOI is valid for up to 12 months. Candidates upon receiving an invitation to apply have 17 calendar days to submit a complete application and employers have 14 calendar days to complete their required approval process.
Ontario ended its previous provincial immigration pathways on May 30, 2026, as part of a major restructuring of the OINP. The Workforce Priority Stream is the first new pathway introduced under this overhaul. Ontario also plans to introduce three additional streams focusing on healthcare workers, entrepreneurs, and exceptional talent. The province has not yet announced when the future streams will be introduced and the eligibility requirements.
