QSW program
The Quebec Skilled Worker (QSW) program applies an Expression of Interest system to select applicants and the applicants need to score high on the points grid of QSW to be invited to apply.
Essential facts about QSW program
- A job offer is not required
- A candidate can apply from anywhere in the world
- No need to demonstrate settlement funds
- The program ultimately leads to permanent residence in Canada
- The processing of the application may take 14-18 months
How is the QSW program different from Express Entry?
Under the QSW program, you need not show any settlement funds. You can add your IELTS results even months after submitting your application, which is not possible in Express Entry. In other words, you need not delay applying for the sake of the IELTS exam.
QSW program is more flexible as far as the type of language exam that a candidate can take. Unlike the Express Entry, no minimum score is required in the language test to apply. However, a high score in language tests will increase your chances to score high in the points grid.
How to apply for QSW program

Documents required
- Identity documents, including a birth certificate and marriage certificate.
- Travel documents, such as copies of your passport, residence visa in case if you are not residing in your home country.
- Educational documents including transcripts and certificates.
- Employment documents depending on your qualifications.
- Though you are not supposed to submit language test results, you should provide it to get your visa granted.
The following documents are required in the initial stage of application to the QSW program.
You can submit the results of either academic IELTS or general IELTS to prove your proficiency in English. French speakers may provide the results of the TEF or the DELF examination to demonstrate language proficiency.
