A Canadian citizen or permanent resident can sponsor three types of relatives:
- Spouse or common-law partner
- Dependent children under the age of 22(They must not be married or in a common-law relationship)
- Parents and grandparents
Things to remember:
- Only Canadian citizens and permanent residents in Canada will be able to sponsor their close family members.
- The family members you can sponsor are spouse, dependent child or your parents or grandparents. You cannot sponsor any other type of family member, including a sibling, cousin, niece, nephew or close friend.
- You can sponsor only your married or common-law partner. You cannot sponsor a person to whom you are engaged.
- You can sponsor only the specified types of a relative. No other relatives will be considered.
