Canada gives high value to the service of caregivers, who provide support to children, seniors, and others who require care. Canada has a range of immigration programs that help caregivers find work in the country and obtain permanent residence.

Canada’s existing immigration programs for caregivers are:

Interim Pathway for Caregivers

Foreign caregivers who have Canadian work experience will be able to apply for Canada permanent residence under the Interim Pathway for Caregivers program. It is a temporary immigration program opened on March 4th, 2019 and will be on till June 4th, 2019. The program allows caregivers with Canadian work experience as home child care providers or home support workers to apply for Canada PR.

Home Child Care Provider Pilot

Under the Home Child Care Provider Pilot, workers with experience as Home Child Care Providers (NOC 4411) can come to Canada on temporary work permits. After earning enough work experience, they can apply for permanent residence in Canada. The program, which was opened to accept applications on June 8th, 2019, admits a maximum of 2750 candidates and their family members every year.

Home Support Worker Pilot

Under the Home Support Worker Pilot launched on June 18th, 2019, foreign workers with experience as Home Support Workers (NOC 4412) can come to Canada on temporary work permits. After gaining enough Canadian work experience, they can apply for permanent residence in Canada. Canada will admit a maximum of 2750 candidates and their families under the program every year.
